In this true stories series, we will share a client’s experience with us. Let’s call her Miss A. She is a student from China, currently staying in Bangi while studying at a university in Bandar Sunsuria, Sepang.
Miss A uses her MacBook Air M1 for her studies and relies heavily on it for research, assignments and tests. One day, out of the blue, the MacBook Air keyboard and trackpad stopped working. Miss A assured us she didn’t drop, knock or do anything that could damage the Mac.
What did Miss A Did About Her Keyboard & Trackpad?
Miss A’s lecturer and friends at the university advised her to get it repaired at the nearest authorised service centre at Aeon Mall Nilai. After she handed over her Mac to them, they gave her a quotation for bottom casing replacement. This replacement included the keyboard, trackpad, battery, speaker, and palm rest, with an estimated cost of over RM2000.
Miss A doubted the high cost and contacted us for a second opinion.
After checking, we found that the problem was actually with the logic board’s signal transmission input and output controller. It is not the keyboard and trackpad themselves. This means that if Miss A had paid RM2000+ for the bottom case replacement, the issue would still not be resolved.

After identifying the issue, we quoted Miss A a repair price that was more than half cheaper than what the service centre quoted. Moreover, we accurately identified the problem causing the keyboard and trackpad to malfunction.
A few months have passed, and the issue has not reoccurred, confirming that our diagnosis and repair worked! So, our advice to everyone is that sometimes it’s really good to ask for a second opinion.

Do take note that all service centres charge a diagnostic fee if your standard warranty has expired. Moreover, they would take between seven to fourteen days to diagnose and provide a quotation. Also, keep in mind that all official service centres do not repair; they only replace parts. This means higher costs and no data retrieval if you don’t have a backup.
