Lost iPhone or iPad? What to do?
Apple can help you if you lost iPhone or iPad:
Locating lost and stolen iPhone and iPad easily
Track the device location even if the battery has died or not connected to the internet
Secure the iPhone and protect any data inside it
Locking the device
Wiping the data
Preventing unauthorized access to services like Apple Pay
In case you’ve misplaced your iPhone at home, work or any other place you’re currently at, you can use the “ping” feature to make it play a sound and help you locate it. If you have an Apple Watch or HomePod, you can use either of them to ping your iPhone.
To ping your iPhone using your Apple Watch:
1️⃣ Simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access the Control Centre.
2️⃣ Look for the ping button, which is represented by an icon of an iPhone with curved lines emanating from it, located on the left-hand side of the screen.
3️⃣Tap on it and your paired iPhone, provided it’s within range, will emit a sound that helps you locate it. Keep using the ping feature until you find your phone.
How to use a HomePod to find your iPhone:
1️⃣ Say to your HomePod: “Hey Siri where’s my iPhone?”
2️⃣ If the iPhone is close enough, Siri will say, “I found [name’s] iPhone nearby, should I make it play a sound?”
3️⃣ Say yes and listen out for your iPhone.
Find My App
iPhone or iPad lost outside your home or office or suspect it’s been stolen, it’s time to use the Find My app.
On any iOS device or a Mac computer:
1️⃣ Locate the Find My app.
2️⃣ On an iPhone drag down from the middle of the screen and type ‘Find’ in the search box – Find My app should appear.
3️⃣ While on a Mac computer press Command + Space bar and start typing ‘Find’ to locate the Find My app.
If you are using a non-Apple device, such as a PC or an Android phone, go to iCloud.com and log into your account there.
Enter the Apple ID and password used for the lost iPhone and iPad. Forgot them? Click on Forgot Apple ID or password.
Click or tap on the device you are trying to locate then a spinning icon will indicate that the device is being located, wait while Find My tracks it down.
Nearby but still cannot find it? By using the Find My app, play a sound on the iPhone to increase the chance to find it.
Activate Lost Mode through Find My App
If the phone location keeps changing, marking it as lost is the best option.
Once Lost Mode is activated, Activation Lock will be activated as well, the lost device cannot be unlocked without the owner’s Apple ID and password and it will also suspend any payment cards used via Apple Pay.
The owner can choose to “Leave a Message,” which will display a message and a phone number on the lost iPhone. Example : Contact (phone number) and a reward will be given.
Erase iPhone through Find My App
If you’ve given up on the possibility of retrieving your lost iPhone, it’s time to erase the device.
1️⃣ Select “Erase This Device” and then select Continue. Note : The iPhone data will not be erased until it connects to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
2️⃣ To proceed, select “Erase” and then enter the Apple ID password and click or tap on “Erase.”
To cancel Erase, select “Cancel Erase” and enter Apple ID password.
